Talking about Waterman, most people will metion pens like Edson, Le Man, Phileas or Liaison. In fact, most people have ignored or overlooked Waterman L’Etalon when it is performing as well as other fountain pens from Waterman. No matter whether you are choosing the sterling silver or just merely a burgundy with told trim, this pen is no doubt an excellent writers. I would highly recommend you to get the gold-plated edition if possible, as it is more valuable comparing to the others. From what I know, Both fountain and ball pen in Waterman L’Etalon come with a very beautiful 18k medium nib.

Similar to Phileas with medium nib, Etalon writes broad when comparing to Expert II M and Liaison M. The nib was very smooth but it doesn’t sit deep into the section, which make it to become sprung and has caused some starting problem. One thing I don’t like about this pen is its appearance. Its plain looking appearance isn’t in anyway correlated to its price. However, like I have mentioned before, the nib is much like Phileas in term of its smoothness. If you aren’t focusing too much on its appearance, it is no doubt a great pen. It is not uncommon to see buyers of Etalon complain about its weight. In my opinion, unless you are looking for a super light pen, its weight should never be a problem given that it is a medium sized pen and not a large sized pen. Phileas is a bit lighter than Etalon, but it is really not heavy at all.

Last thing I want to mention is that it is a relatively expensive pen due to its discontinued-ness. That’s the reason why you see it is selling very expensive on the net. But in other words, it is a great investment opportunity for you whether you are a fountain pen lover or a investor.
