Known for their fine style and finish, these writing instruments have earned the respect and support of the consumers since its inception in 1846. The firm started with production of writing instrument cases in gold and silver. Slowly they penetrated the market of pens. The cmpany transferred its ownership to Walter R. Boss in 1916. Since 1971 it attained the status of public ownership. The first set of cross fountain pens was manufactured in 1930 after which its trace was lost till 1980. Though they were tagged as a ‘must have’ item for growing professionals, they belong to the mid range of the market and are not regarded the luxury pieces. In the year 2000 the production business has been outsourced to a firm of Chinese native.
The shifting of ownerships has never had an adverse effect on the quality of the instruments. From time to time the manufacturers have ensured design of pens that would solve the consumer’s purpose.
